All early voting locations are open Saturday in both counties. On Sunday, you can vote in Bibb County at the Board of Elections office on the Macon Mall.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — We are wrapping up the second week of early voting for the May primary election. Many counties hold local and state elections.

Statewide, more than 240,000 people turned out to vote. However, Houston and Bibb counties say they didn’t see the turnout they expected.

If a busy work week has kept you away, you can vote this weekend. Polls will open to voters Saturday in all four locations in Houston County.

  • The Board of Elections office in Perry
  • The Houston Healthcare Pavilion
  • The North Houston Sports Complex
  • Central Georgia Technical College, Health Sciences Building

The three polling stations in Mâcon are open on Saturday, namely:

  • The Board of Elections office at Macon Mall
  • Theron Ussery Recreation Center
  • Elaine Lucas Center

On Sunday in Bibb County you can only vote at the Board of Elections office.

Few people went to the polls in Bibb County on Friday.

“The turnout is nowhere near what I hoped and expected,” said Macon-Bibb County Elections Supervisor Thomas Gillon.

He said their turnout rate was about 2%.

“At the end of the day yesterday, we had a total of about 2,800 voters,” he said.

Gillon says that’s below average, especially with all the voting going on this year.

“The United States Congress, the House of Representatives, the mayor, the sheriff, the coroner and many judges,” he continued.

There are also Board of Educations races and more in the county, so he reminds you of the weekend options.

“Our office here will be open Sunday, Mother’s Day, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.,” Gillon said.

In Houston County, Eric Lieberman came to collect his voting sticker, adding to the top four percent of early voters in Houston County. He says he usually votes early.

“I came here to vote early to beat the crowds on Election Day,” Lieberman said.

As of late Thursday, the county had just over 4,000 voters.

“It’s been very average so far,” said election aide Andy Holland.

He said he hopes more voters will take advantage of the elections this weekend and next week.

“We encourage people to go out and check their registration in advance on the secretary of state’s website. Get a sample ballot. Review the ballot,” he said.

He also reminds that this ballot has many races, with many names, so you will need to find out in advance.

“It’s a very long ballot for this election. Read it carefully. There are questions on the ballot that the parties have asked. Make sure you know them, so you’re ready when you come to vote “Holland said. said.

You can also vote by mail. So far, less than 20 percent of the state’s residents have chosen this option. However, Friday, May 10 is the last day to register to vote by mail.

Early voting lasts until next Friday, May 17. Election day is May 21.
