Three were arrested after stolen horses were found in Scott County

SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Agents with the Mississippi Agriculture and Livestock Theft Bureau (MALTB) recovered two stolen horses with an estimated value of $11,000 in Scott County on Friday, April 19.

According to MALTB officials, this investigation led to the arrests of Tyrese Walton, Quentonio Odom and Charles Gatewood.


The initial report was made by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and states that two horses were stolen from Scott County in late March. The MALTB was then notified on April 4th.

The owner of the stolen horses took to social media to demand the return of his horses. According to MALTB, the post resulted in the victim receiving two calls regarding the location of his horses. The victim informed MALTB investigators of the information received. Following a tip on social media, investigators were able to interview suspects and gather additional information about the whereabouts of the horses.

When the horses were found, officials said one of them had a burn mark that had been attempted to be burned. After further investigation, officers concluded that Odom was responsible for the burned badge.

Walton, Odom and Gatewood were each charged with cattle theft. In addition, Odom was accused of trademark counterfeiting and animal cruelty. Gatewood was charged with animal cruelty in a separate incident. Walton and Gatewood each had bail set at $25,000. Odom’s bail was set at $50,000.
