New footage from Manchester Airport shows attacks on officials

New footage has emerged of the moments before a police officer apparently stepped on a man’s head, showing the attack on the officer.

A video circulating on the Internet originally appeared to show a Greater Manchester Police officer kicking a man in the head.

However, new footage from a car park at Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2 appears to show the officers coming under attack.

The original footage, which apparently shows the police officer kicking and stomping on the head of a man lying on the ground, sparked a wave of protests.

New footage obtained by the Manchester Evening News shows a group of people standing near a ticket machine.

You can see three police officers – a man and two women – walking through the crowd towards a man dressed in light blue who is standing in front of the machine.

While attempting to detain the man, the male officer appears to push his head down while his two female colleagues stand next to him.

Then other members of the group approach. One appears to grab the police officer and try to free the arrested man.

An exchange of blows ensues between the officer and the male group member, with the officer being pulled to the ground and receiving several blows.

Meanwhile, the arrested man appears to be able to free himself from the policewoman before striking her and her colleague. In the clip, both women are seen receiving blows to the head and face, with one of them landing on the ground.

Holding a taser

The male police officer is then seen pointing his taser at the man from the larger group who apparently hit him.

The man, who has escaped from the police’s grasp, appears to run towards the officer from behind and hits him several times while pointing his taser in the air.

He wrestles the officer to the ground before turning onto his stomach and lying face down.

You can also see a woman kneeling next to him.

The officer then stands up and points his taser at the man. Then, as seen in the widely circulated footage, he appears to kick and then stomp on the man’s head as he lies on the ground.

After the original recordings were published, there was a call for “calm”.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct said criminal proceedings had been initiated against a police officer for assault, but stressed that this did not necessarily mean that criminal charges would be brought.

The supervisory authority confirmed that once its investigation is complete, it will decide whether to refer the case to the public prosecutor’s office.
