Honeck wins Buffalo Junior Golf League, qualifies for nationals | Newsletter

Last September, Hudson Honeck placed first in his age group — by a wide margin — in the Buffalo Junior Golf Tour’s fall league. In doing so, he qualified for the Winter National Championships, held this past February, in Sandestin, Florida.

Eight months later, he did it again… just as convincingly.

Eight-year-old Honeck recently competed in the Buffalo Junior Golf Tour spring league at Audubon Golf Club in Amherst and Tri-County Country Club in Forestville. And once again, he took first place by being crowned champion of the 6 to 8 year old league.

Honeck played six nine-hole matches against seven other boys in his division. He stood out by recording an average of 39, 10 strokes below the national qualifying requirements. That’s the same average he posted when he won all six fall league events. Honeck now heads to the Junior Tour Summer Nationals, which will be held June 19-22 at the PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The Buffalo Junior Tour, led by former LPGA player Cindy Miller, is one of 44 chapters on the national tour, sponsored by UnderArmor. It is a golf league for boys and girls ages 6 to 18, with the top six golfers in each age division from each region of the United States qualifying for the national championships if the requirements of score are met.

Honeck, an Allegany-Limestone student, is locally a junior member of the Bartlett Country Club.
