Metro Aquarium employee bitten by small shark, authorities say

The incident was reported shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday.

The West Des Moines Fire Department told KCCI it responded to an incident involving a shark at the Blue Zoo on Mills Civic Parkway. The incident was reported just after 3 p.m. Monday. Authorities say a zookeeper was bitten by a small shark and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another employee confirms the employee was bitten by a bamboo shark and that the employee will be OK. According to the Blue Zoo’s Facebook page, this week is shark week at the aquarium. WEST DES MOINES, Iowa —

The West Des Moines Fire Department told KCCI they were called to a shark incident at the Blue Zoo on Mills Civic Parkway.

The incident was reported shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday. Authorities said a zookeeper was bitten by a small shark and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Another employee confirms that the employee was bitten by a bamboo shark and that he will be fine soon.

According to the Blue Zoo’s Facebook page, this week is Shark Week at the aquarium.
