Metro Aquarium employee bitten by small shark, authorities say

The incident was reported shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday.

The West Des Moines Fire Department told KCCI it responded to an incident involving a shark at the Blue Zoo on Mills Civic Parkway. The incident was reported just after 3 p.m. Monday. Authorities say a zookeeper was bitten by a small shark and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another employee confirms the employee was bitten by a bamboo shark and that the employee will be OK. According to the Blue Zoo’s Facebook page, this week is shark week at the aquarium. The West Des Moines Fire Department told KCCI they were called to a shark incident at the Blue Zoo on Mills Civic Parkway.

The incident was reported shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday. Authorities said a zookeeper was bitten by a small shark and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Another employee confirms that the employee was bitten by a bamboo shark and that he will be fine soon.

According to the Blue Zoo’s Facebook page, this week is Shark Week at the aquarium.
