Animal owner is attacked by dog while trying to save her own animal

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control is asking for the public’s assistance following a tragic incident in Jacobson Park on Friday that left a dog dead and its owner attacked.

Deb Blair, who was visiting the dog park with her two dogs, told ABC 36’s Walker Simmons about the incident. According to Blair, it was a relatively quiet day at the park when her smaller dog was suddenly attacked by a larger dog. Despite her efforts to save her pet, the smaller dog succumbed to his injuries. Blair herself was also attacked in the process.

In her rush to get her injured dog to the emergency vet, Blair did not get any information from the other dog’s owner.

“I was afraid I would have to get the other dog. The emergency room didn’t get any information from him,” said Debbie Blair, the owner of the fatally attacked dog.

Blair is now asking for help in finding the owner of the dog that attacked her. Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control has also launched a public appeal for information on social media.

Blair stressed that she wanted to speak to the other owner, not only to bring closure to the incident, but also to make sure the attacking dog was treated for rabies, as it was bitten during the incident.

Lexington-Fayette Animal Care and Control urges anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward and contact their department.
