India’s Modi boasts of record job creation despite opposition attacks

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been sparring with the opposition over the country’s employment situation, recently received ammunition from the central bank, which now expects India’s employment growth rate to have risen to 6% in the fiscal year to March, almost double the 3.2% growth rate in the previous 12 months.

In a report released earlier this month, the Reserve Bank of India released preliminary data for the fiscal year just ended, showing that India created 46.66 million new jobs in the 12 months, bringing the total number of jobs in the South Asian country of 1.4 billion people to 643.33 million.
