Newcastle child molester who evaded justice for decades dies just six days after serving seven-year prison sentence

A child molester who evaded justice for decades has died in prison just six days after serving a sentence of seven years and seven months.

Brian Jordan was sentenced to seven years and seven months in prison after a jury found him guilty of raping and sexually assaulting one girl and having unlawful sexual intercourse with another. The crimes occurred when Jordan was also a minor.

When the 60-year-old was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court, one of his victims bravely confronted him and urged other victims of historical abuse to come forward. But just days after Jordan’s sentencing, on June 27, he was found dead in HMP Durham. His death is currently under investigation.

A prison service spokesman said: “Brian Jordan died at HMP Durham on 3 July. As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate the case.”

The court heard that one of Jordan’s victims was so young at the time that she did not understand what was happening to her and could not find the words to tell what he had done to her. Jordan threatened her during the abuse, covering her face with a pillow to silence her. And he even told the girl that she would go to hell if she revealed his shameful secret.

In a statement, the victim said: “He never thought for a second about the damage he was doing. I didn’t even know what he was doing to me. I was so young I didn’t have the words to tell anyone. The pillow shoved in my face was frightening. He said if I told anyone what he was doing I would go to hell. He made me afraid to live in the world and afraid to die.”

And addressing Jordan, of Croydon Road in Arthur’s Hill, Newcastle, directly, she added: “This is your secret, not mine. This is your shame. The sexual abuse you committed is your shame, so own up to it. Realising that has given me the strength to stand up in court and confront you. We are free now. Free from your secret, free from the monster I’ve had to carry around with me all my life, free from the curse you placed on me.”

“I hope that the perpetrators hear my story and become afraid. Afraid that one day the police will be at the door. I hope that other victims hear my story and finally have the courage to report their abuse. Do not protect your perpetrator. Your abuse is not your secret and not your shame.”

The court was told that Jordan had worked in community football and the construction industry before his imprisonment.
