Student from Andhra Pradesh dies in road accident in the USA

VIJAYAWADA: A young student from Tennali town in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh died in a road accident in the United States. The student has been identified as Jetti Harika (23).

On Sunday morning, Harika’s family was awakened by a devastating phone call from the United States. The voice on the other end informed Harika’s family that Harika was no longer alive.

One person was killed and four others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Logan Country, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP). The crash occurred near Highway 74 and West Triplett Road. Police said three vehicles collided after one of the drivers drove off the road due to weather conditions.

Harika’s family members said that Harika went to the US in August 2023 to pursue her Masters in Food and Nutrition. Harika’s father J Srinivas Rao is an employee of the endowment department and her mother Nagamani is a housewife. According to sources, Harika worked as a veterinarian in Guntur before her trip to the US.

The incident is the fourth death among Andhra tribals in the country this year. Harika’s family was appalled that Minister Nara Lokesh and some others have taken steps to bring Harika’s mortal remains home.

Between January and April 2024, three students from Andhra Pradesh were killed in separate road accidents in the United States.
