  • Harford County Sheriff’s Office employee charged with theft and forgery

BEL-AIR, MD – A Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been indicted and suspended without pay after being charged with serious theft and forgery. Senior Deputy Shawn Forton, 40, who has worked for the Harford County Sheriff’s Office since August 2006, faces charges of theft over $1,500 and multiple counts of forgery.

After the investigation was completed, the case was turned over to the Harford County District Attorney’s Office, which presented the findings to a grand jury in Harford County District Court on July 16, 2024. The grand jury issued indictments shortly thereafter.

Forton, who was initially suspended with pay on July 10, had his suspension changed to without pay following the grand jury’s decision.
