Fire in an apartment building in Manchester is being investigated

A Level 2 Alert fire that damaged a Manchester apartment building on Friday is under investigation. The fire was reported just after 3 p.m. at 741 Somerville Street. Flames and thick smoke pouring from the front of the second and third floors of the building blew out windows on porches. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control in about 45 minutes. 8 adults and 4 children were left homeless. Firefighters were able to rescue 3 cats and a dog from the fire, but 2 other cats could not be saved. One firefighter suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. Investigators said it appears the fire started in a kitchen on the second floor of the building.
