Man accused of raping four boys in Imbali rejects his bail application

The man accused of raping four boys in Imbali in Pietermaritzburg over a period of at least two years has abandoned his application for bail.

The 42-year-old man, who appeared in Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, was arrested earlier this year.

Due to the nature of the allegations, his identity cannot be revealed at this time.

As The Witness previously reported and according to the indictment, the first case dates back to January 2022 when the man allegedly raped a 10-year-old boy in Imbali Unit 18.

The court heard the same child was allegedly raped multiple times between January 2022 and February 2024.

A 14-year-old boy was also allegedly raped, but the exact date of the incident was not recorded in the indictment.

The man is also accused of raping two boys, aged five and 13, also in Imbali on or about February 23.

During his first court appearance, residents of Imbali protested outside the court demanding that he be denied bail.

The man remains in custody and will appear in court on July 8 for a state court assignment.
