Family, police seek help in solving fatal shooting of Buffalo teen

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — It’s been more than two months since 14-year-old Jazzmine Fomby was shot and killed at a party on Alexander Place.

Fomby was one of six young people shot dead on the night of May 4 during the rally, she was the only one to die in this chaotic scene.

More than two months later, no one has been arrested.

“The shooter or shooters involved in this shooting should consider turning themselves in,” Mayor Brown said after the shooting. “If you have any awareness or remorse for killing a 14-year-old girl, you should contact Buffalo Police and turn yourself in.”

“I’m a little disappointed that no one has talked about it yet,” said her mother, Angel Myree.

On Tuesday, Buffalo police unveiled a new initiative to help solve this case and other homicides in the city.

Police say they will work directly with victims’ families to encourage witnesses to speak out.

Mayor Byron Brown said this was the start of a new approach and a new case would be presented once a month.

“We know that someone knows something about what happened that night. If you saw something, please come forward, no detail is too small,” he said.

“I wish people would speak out. We need that more. This is not about snitching. We need answers,” her grandmother said in a video posted by BPD on social media.

“If you love him and you are his true friend, tell someone,” his aunt says in the video.

Police are asking anyone with information to come to Crime Stoppers, where tips can be taken confidentially. You can call 716-867-6161 or download the Buffalo Tips app to submit a tip.
