Man shot dead in Brooklyn during argument near dollar store: police

Detectives in Brooklyn are searching for a suspect who shot a man after an argument near a dollar store Monday night, authorities said.

According to police sources, officers from the 79th District rushed to 306 Franklin Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant at around 7:41 p.m. on July 15 after a 911 caller reported shots fired.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a 27-year-old man with numerous gunshot wounds to the chest in front of the store, a Family Dollar Store.

Emergency services took the victim to Kings County Hospital, where medical personnel pronounced him dead.

Sources familiar with the incident reported that the victim got into an argument with the suspected shooter, who was described as a man wearing a gray hoodie and dark pants. After firing the fatal shot, he immediately fled the scene on foot, according to police.

While detectives investigated the murder, police officers cordoned off the street until late at night.

No arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.

Through July 14, the 79th Precinct had recorded three homicides year to date, according to the latest CompStat report, compared to six at the same time in 2023. There were also 12 shootings, the same number as on July 14 of last year.
