After Trump attack, BJP criticises Rahul Gandhi’s comments on Prime Minister Modi | News from India

NEW DELHI: Following the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump, the BJP accused the Congress of the inflammatory and inflammatory language used by Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders during the Lok Sabha election campaign, saying that the inflammatory language that fuelled the attack on Trump was also used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Party spokespeople recalled Rahul calling the prime minister a Hitler and his remark, “Woh (Modi) ghar se nahi nikal paayega, Hindustan ke yuva usko danda marenge (The prime minister will be beaten with lathis if he leaves his house).” They said it was these kinds of provocative remarks that encouraged political violence.

“Incidentally, ‘Democracy is in danger’ is also the slogan of the US presidential election, just like ‘Samvidhaan ko bachana hai’ was the slogan of the opposition in India. Caste system, like race in America, has been used as a weapon to drive a wedge in Indian society. Demonising opponents and calling them dictators is also no accident. The global moneybag with dangerous ideas used the term for the first time to describe democratically elected powerful world leaders whom it could not control,” said Amit Malviya, head of BJP’s IT department, in a post on X.

The remark appeared to echo the BJP’s complaints about billionaire trader George Soros, who has sought to influence politics in many countries, and was a notable expression of sympathy for Trump.

“But on the third time, Rahul, who was demanding foreign intervention in India’s elections, has not delivered,” Malviya said, sharing a screenshot of Rahul’s March 21 post on X in which the Congress leader appeared to take a swipe at Modi by asking, “Why do so many dictators have names starting with M… Marcos, Mussolini, Milosevic, Mubarak, Musharraf, Micombero.”

Also shared was a video of Rahul’s recent remark at a press conference, in which he referred without criticism to the alleged incident of a slipper being thrown at Modi’s convoy in Varanasi.

BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala also hit out at the Congress for dehumanizing Modi. “By dehumanizing Trump, you legitimize such attacks. Similar dehumanizing attacks are taking place in India too, where some prime ministers are calling Modi a ‘threat to democracy’ and a ‘non-biological’ prime minister. Such attacks by the Congress’s communications chief legitimize and spread violence and hatred,” Poonawala said.
