Bronx man killed, woman injured in double shooting outside apartment building

Police in the Bronx are currently trying to find the suspect who shot two people and killed one of them in front of an apartment building on Saturday evening.

Authorities said the shooting occurred around 8:18 p.m. on July 13 outside the home at 2247 Webster Avenue in Fordham Heights.

Officials of the 46th Districtresponding to a 911 call about an assault in progress arrived on the scene and found Thomas McCellan, 28, of East 171st Street in the Bronx, with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. They also found the second victim, a 26-year-old woman, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the hand.

Emergency services took both victims to St. Barnabas Hospital, where McCellan was pronounced dead a short time later. The woman’s condition has since been reported as stable.

So far, no arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation, police said. A source at the NYPD did not provide any information on a possible motive or a description of the suspect.

In the 46th Precinct, the murder rate has skyrocketed in 2024; through July 7, police have recorded 15 murders so far this year, 10 more than the same time last year, according to the latest CompStat report.

However, the number of shootings in the command has decreased slightly this year: there were 20 incidents and 24 victims, compared to the 22 shootings with 29 victims that occurred at the same time in 2023.
