Suspect shot after foot chase in Humboldt Park, Chicago police say – NBC Chicago

A suspect was shot and killed by Chicago police after a foot chase in Humboldt Park on Saturday night, sparking an investigation by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.

According to Chicago police, officers conducted a street stop at around 8:48 p.m. on two people standing in an alley in the 3800 block of North Avenue.

During this investigation, one of the offenders fled on foot and officers pursued him on foot. During the pursuit, the offender was observed carrying a weapon and attempting to throw it away.

The man then reached for his weapon again and one of the officers opened fire, hitting the man several times, police said.

The suspect in the case was taken to a nearby hospital in good condition and the gun was recovered at the scene.

The officer charged in the case was placed on routine administrative duties for 30 days under the department’s use of force policy. COPA has opened an investigation into the shooting and will release a report at a later date.
