The National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office has issued a heat advisory for Barrow, Bartow, Cobb, Clarke, Cobb, Cherokee, DeKalb, Muscogee, Douglas, Fayette, Hall, Henry, Forsyth, Paulding and Gwinnett counties, among others. The advisory will expire at 8 p.m. Monday.

Meanwhile, the weather service office in Jacksonville has issued a heat warning for southeast Georgia.

Parts of central and east-central Georgia could see heat indices of at least 105 degrees, including metropolitan Atlanta and the Columbus area, weather officials said.

They added that scattered thunderstorms are also expected daily from Monday. Locally heavy rain and frequent thunderstorms could pose dangers in the event of severe storms.

On Monday, highs will be 33 degrees in metropolitan Atlanta and 34 degrees in Columbus. On the coast, in Savannah, temperatures are expected to reach 33 degrees.

Heat indices of at least 100-105 are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Each day this week, isolated or scattered thunderstorms are expected to hit central and east-central Georgia. The risk of severe weather is low, with thunderstorms likely to occur in the afternoon and evening.

The forecast for Georgia is in line with other southern regions on Monday.

Several heat advisories were issued in neighboring Florida, while Birmingham, Alabama, and Jackson, Mississippi, had their own heat advisories amid forecasts of temperatures above 90 degrees.

Parts of Georgia were slightly cooler than parts of Tennessee, with a high of 97 degrees forecast for the neighboring state capital, Nashville.
