Man charged with ‘unprovoked’ attack on woman in McHenry Park has been sent to prison on attempted murder charges – Shaw Local

A Wisconsin man who authorities say punched and attempted to choke a woman in a “completely unprovoked” attack at a McHenry Park – and then allegedly used his pit bull to hit a man who tried to intervene – was sentenced Monday afternoon Arrest sentenced to prison while awaiting trial.

Raymond P. Link, 47 – who repeatedly interrupted his detention hearing Monday afternoon with incoherent statements, including referring to himself as “Lord Saturn” – is charged with attempted murder and other crimes after authorities said he had a 59- Year-old beat woman, tried to strangle her and pinned her neck with his knee.

According to police and prosecutors, Link, of West Allis, was walking his unleashed dog Sunday afternoon when he “suddenly attacked and battered” the woman, who suffered severe facial injuries, lacerations and multiple dog bites and was flown to Attorney Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Officials told the court she was expected to survive but lost a large amount of blood.

McHenry County Assistant Prosecutor Julio Cantre said a family was nearby in Petersen Park when they heard a “blood-curdling scream.”

Cantre called it a “completely unprovoked” attack, and McHenry police said in a news release earlier Monday that “there did not appear to be any connection between Link and the victim.” The woman was walking her dog at the time. The 37-year-old man who intervened was also beaten and suffered a broken collarbone and a dog bite, according to police and prosecutors.

According to a complaint filed by authorities in McHenry County court, Link “took significant steps to commit first-degree murder … by knowingly and unlawfully kicking, kicking (the woman) on the head and neck.” and hit her.” He placed both knees on her head and neck with his entire body weight and attempted to strangle the victim with his forearms and/or hands while the victim lay unconscious and unresponsive on the floor.” Link also “tried to strangling the victim with his forearm and/or hands, rendering the victim unable to breathe, while the victim lay unconscious and unresponsive on the ground, resulting in lacerations to the victim’s left ear, a tear in the left eyeball, and multiple significant lacerations “, and an extensive open fracture of the facial bones,” the complaint states.

Link further accuses the man who intervened of punching the man who intervened “more than 12 times in the chest and arms with a closed fist and ordering his dog to attack him,” court documents state.

Link was arrested after police responded to the scene around 3:30 p.m. Sunday and taken to the McHenry County Jail. Link is charged with attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, aggravated assault with strangulation and aggravated assault in a public place. His dog fled but was later found and turned over to McHenry County Animal Control. Cantre said the dog was shocked with a Taser by police after they arrived at the scene.

At Link’s first court hearing on Monday, he appeared for the first time via Zoom from jail but appeared unruly, prompting Judge Michael Chmiel to postpone Link’s appearance until later Monday afternoon, when Link was brought into the courtroom accompanied by three correctional officers. The judge warned Link not to curse or interrupt. Chmiel once held Link for contempt of court, although the judge later said he would address the contempt ruling at a future hearing. Link apologized in court for swearing before Chmiel ruled that the state had met its burden of proof by proving that Link was a danger to the community and should remain in prison while he awaited trial.
