July 4th Damage to Buffalo City Parks

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The City of Buffalo Department of Public Works said at least three city parks were damaged during the Fourth of July holiday.

City officials said two baseball fields at Cazenovia Park and one at Riverside Park were damaged by people lighting fireworks that burned parts of the infields.

Olmstead crews were working on diamond repairs this morning.

In addition to the damage, trash cans in Shoshone Park were also burned by fireworks.

Authorities reported that a large amount of debris was left in and around the Centennial Wading Pool. As a result, the wading pool had to be opened later this morning for a cleanup that is currently underway.

Thousands of people enjoyed the city’s parks during the holiday, officials said.

Due to all of this damage, the Department of Public Works would like to remind the community to respect the parks and clean up after themselves.
