Greensburg woman dead, 2 others injured after accident in Bartholomew County

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. – A Greensburg woman died and two others were injured in a crash Tuesday afternoon in Bartholomew County, according to officials with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.

On Tuesday at approximately 4:11 p.m., officers from the sheriff’s office responded to a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of E 100 S and S 525 E. When officers arrived, they found both vehicles involved, including a Chevrolet Impala and a Chevrolet pickup truck, had significant damage. The occupants of both vehicles, including two in the Impala, were trapped.

The press release stated that personnel from various fire departments freed the trapped people from their respective cars. The driver of the Impala, 51-year-old Tonya Whiteside of Greensburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Impala’s passenger, a 47-year-old man from Greensburg, and the driver of the pickup, a 21-year-old man from Bedford, were flown by helicopter to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.

After a preliminary investigation, officers believe the Impala disregarded a stop sign at the intersection, which led to the collision. The press release states that drugs or alcohol are not believed to have played a role in this incident.

This incident remains under investigation by the Bartholomew County Accident Reconstruction Team.
