Two UW-Madison student groups under investigation, provisional suspension for potentially discriminatory behavior | Top stories

MADISON (WKOW) — Two student organizations registered at UW-Madison are under investigation and are under interim suspension following allegations of discriminatory behavior at a chalk event over the weekend.

According to UW-Madison, the Student Organizations Committee received complaints that members of Mecha de UW Madison and Anticolonial Scientists co-hosted a chalk event at the Dane County Farmers’ Market that contained messages that advocated violence, supported terrorist organizations and/or them curbed anti-Semitic comments.

UW officials say the reports are unsubstantiated. The two student groups remain on interim suspension pending the completion of an investigation by the university’s Student Organizations Committee.

During the interim suspension, groups must cease all organizational activities except for one board meeting per week.
