Repeat offender arrested for stabbing in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD – A repeat offender was taken into custody June 27 after turning himself in in connection with a stabbing in the North End earlier this month, police said.

After investigating the June 14 incident, detectives charged 38-year-old Samuel Rodriguez with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Patrol units responded to a 911 call on Harvard Street in the Brickenwood neighborhood and found an adult man with numerous stab wounds.

The victim, whose name was not released, was hospitalized and is currently recovering.

Detective Matthew Sylvia led the investigation that led to the identification of Rodriguez, who resides at 195 Amanda Ave.

After sufficient suspicion had been established, an arrest warrant was issued.

Rodriguez has a long criminal history, including 70 adult charges and various convictions, including heroin trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and assault on a police officer.

Authorities are asking anyone with further information to come forward and assist with the ongoing investigation.
