Hillsdale County deputy killed in traffic stop shooting; police kill gunman during shootout

HILLSDALE COUNTY, Michigan. – A Hillsdale County sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed during a traffic stop.

Officials say Eric Michael Fiddler shot the deputy in the area of ​​Beecher and Lamb Roadwhich required the presence of multiple law enforcement agencies in the manhunt, including K9 Aviation and ES Team.

Following the incident on Thursday (June 27), an hours-long manhunt began until the Michigan State Police Emergency Response Team located Fiddler at 6:15 p.m. and found him hiding in a field near the intersection of Culbert Road and Osseo Road South.

Michigan State Police said they ordered Fiddler to surrender, but he pulled out a gun and began shooting. whereupon the police returned fire and killed him at the scene.

The Hillsdale County deputy killed by Fiddler is the second police officer to die in the line of duty this week.
