45-year-old Ridgefield man charged with sexual abuse of a minor: PD

RIDGEFIELD, CT — A Ridgefield man turned himself in to Redding police on June 11 on an arrest warrant that included charges of sexual assault and commercial sexual abuse of a minor.

After an investigation lasting about three months, Redding police identified 45-year-old David Birkrant and obtained a warrant for his arrest in Danbury Superior Court.

The investigation began after a tip from the Bergen County, New Jersey, district attorney’s office regarding a possible sexual assault that occurred at the Days Inn in Redding in February 2024, according to police Capt. Timothy Succi.

Birkrant turned himself in to police on June 11. He was charged with using a minor in an obscene performance, second-degree sexual assault, commercial sexual abuse of a minor, solicitation of sexual conduct, harmful communications with minors, injury or endangerment of children or impairment of their morals, and child trafficking.

Police held Birkrant on $250,000 bail, which Succi said he was unable to raise. Birkrant was brought before Danbury Superior Court for arraignment on June 11.
