Man sentenced to 80 years in prison for repeated sexual assault of a child

The district attorney said Ray Rodriguez-Ortiz began abusing the minor victim in 2019 and continued into 2021.

SAN ANTONIO – A man convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child has been sentenced.

According to a statement from Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales, Ray Rodriguez-Ortiz was sentenced Friday to 80 years in prison after a Bexar County jury found him guilty on five of the six molestation counts he was charged with.

The district attorney said Rodriguez-Ortiz began abusing the minor victim in February 2019 and continued until February 2021, when the child told his mother about the abuse.

The child’s mother then reported the abuse to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and began an investigation.

“We are committed to fighting child abuse and supporting victims to ensure justice is served and our community remains safe,” said Joe Gonzales.

As part of his sentence, Rodriguez-Ortiz must register as a sex offender with the Texas Department of Public Safety.
