Suspect shot by police at Woody’s Bar in Galveston

Galveston police said the man illegally entered a home before he was found and a shooting occurred at the bar.

GALVESTON, Texas – A man was shot and killed at a popular bar in Galveston on Wednesday.

According to police, the man illegally entered a home in the East End around 3:15 p.m

About 15 minutes later, officers found him at Woody’s Bar in the West End.

When they got there, police said, the man ignored requests to put down his weapon and eventually shot at the officers, who also opened fire on the man. The man was beaten and killed.

“At some point, officers on scene became fearful for their own safety,” Galveston Police Chief Doug Balli said.

Balli said the officers involved in the shooting will be placed on modified assignments pending an investigation into the shooting.

The Galveston Police Department’s policy is to have officer-involved shootings investigated by an outside law enforcement agency. The Texas Rangers and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Team were called in to investigate this shooting.
