Two people charged with ‘blackmailing’ Prajwal’s brother Suraj on ‘false’ sexual abuse charges

BENGALURU: Karnataka Police have filed a complaint against two persons for threatening Janata Dal (Secular) MLC Suraj Revanna with the allegation that they had “blackmailed” him by submitting a “false” complaint of sexual assault.

Suraj Revanna is the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and the younger brother of Prajwal Revanna, the main accused in the sex video scandal.

Suraj Revanna’s assistant Shivakumar HL has filed a complaint against a JD(S) activist who alleged that Suraj Revanna sexually abused him and his relatives at Holenarasipura police station.

The complainant said that on June 16, the accused went to Suraj Revanna’s farmhouse to apply for a job. When the accused did not get a job, he asked Suraj Revanna to give him Rs 5 crore, otherwise he would file a sexual abuse complaint against the leader.

The plaintiff alleged that the accused later reduced the “extortion amount” to Rs 2.5 crore.

The police have initiated proceedings under sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (criminal act by several persons) of the Penal Code (IPB).

However, the accused told reporters, “Suraj Revanna was impressed with me as I had organised a programme in my village. We exchanged mobile numbers and after that Suraj sent me a message requesting a meeting. I was asked to meet him at his farm where I was sexually abused.”
