Judge refuses to reduce bail for suspect in island-wide chase

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A judge on Friday denied a bail reduction for the suspect accused of leading police on a cross-island chase.

Josiah Weiland-Vierra is said to have led officers on a chase from Nanakuli to Kaneohe on Tuesday morning.

According to new court documents, the 26-year-old is said to have stolen a man’s truck at Farrington Highway Longs Drugs in Nanakuli after pulling out a gun and demanding that the man give him $200.

According to court documents, Weiland-Vierra rammed the truck into a Honolulu Police Department patrol car, causing whiplash to the officer.

Police said he struck a vehicle near Windward Community College, where he abandoned the stolen truck and unsuccessfully attempted to steal two cars nearby. Arriving officers arrested Weiland-Vierra shortly after noon and seized a weapon.

He was charged with robbery, terroristic threats, criminal damage, car theft and assault on a police officer.

His bail was kept at $300,000.

Weiland-Vierra must appear in court again on Tuesday.
