19-year-old dead, another injured after accident in Alleghany County

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Virginia. – A 19-year-old woman is dead and another person was injured following a car crash in Alleghany County Tuesday evening, according to Virginia State Police.

We’re told a 2014 Toyota Camry was traveling south on Route 687, a half-mile north of Route 830 in Alleghany County, around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday evening.

According to VSP, the vehicle veered off the right side of the road and hit the side of a bridge. The vehicle then plunged down an embankment, overturned and caught fire.

10 News has learned that the driver of the Toyota was injured and taken to the hospital. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Aleigha Angle of Covington, was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

According to state police, the accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
