NYPD: Mob of youths throws traffic cones and bottles at Jewish man on Brooklyn street

A mob of youths threw traffic cones and bottles at a Jewish man on a street in Brooklyn, police said on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old victim, wearing Orthodox Jewish clothing, was walking near the corner of Lorimer and Meserole Sts. in Williamsburg around 11:45 p.m. on June 6 when children began shouting anti-Semitic remarks at him as he passed, police said.

The youths threw traffic cones and bottles at the stranger before running away.

The victim suffered minor injuries in the attack and did not require medical attention.

The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the attack.

On Wednesday, police released images of the teens in the hopes someone will recognize them. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.

Since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, which triggered the war in the Gaza Strip, there has been an increase in anti-Semitic incidents in the city.

According to NYPD Chief of Investigations Joseph Kenny, there was a 55 percent increase in anti-Semitic crimes on May 21 compared to the same period last year. Overall, there was a 31 percent increase in hate crimes.

There were 143 anti-Jewish crimes, 51 more than in the same period last year, Kenny said.

Last month, 58-year-old driver Asghar Ali was charged with attempted murder and attempted assault as a hate crime after he verbally attacked a group of Jews outside a Brooklyn yeshiva and then tried to run them over.

No one was injured in the wild attack on May 29 in front of the Mesivta Nachlas Yakov School on Glenwood Road in East Flatbush.
