Gordon Ramsay says he looks like a purple potato after falling off his bike and suffering “a few bruises”.

In a video posted to his social media pages, the celebrity chef pulls up his top to reveal a dark bruise that appears to cover the entire left side of his torso.

He said the “really bad accident” happened in Connecticut earlier this week.

“It really shook me and honestly I’m glad to be here now,” said the Kitchen nightmares Star told the fans.

On Instagram, he added a photo of his badly damaged helmet.

“I am grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London who cared for me and examined me, but I am most grateful for my helmet which saved my life,” he wrote.

He urged everyone to wear a helmet while cycling.

“I don’t care how short the ride is. I don’t care that these helmets cost money, but they are essential. Even the children have to wear a helmet on short rides…

“I’m glad I can stand here. I’m in pain. It’s been a brutal week, but I’m getting through it somehow. But I can’t tell you how important it is to wear a helmet.”

Ramsay said he suffered no broken bones or major injuries other than the bruise.
