Toledo police find “several” dead puppies in the backyard of a house

According to police, the puppies were found shortly before 3 a.m. Monday in a doghouse in the backyard of a property near Anthony Wayne Trail and South Avenue.

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo police found “several dead puppies” in a dog crate in the backyard of a south Toledo home shortly before 3 a.m. Monday, according to a police report.

Police responded to a call that possible dead animals had been found on a property on Prouty Street, near the intersection of Anthony Wayne Trail and South Avenue.

According to the police report, the property appeared to be unoccupied, and officers went into the backyard and found the crate and the puppies. The number of dead puppies is not specified in the report.

Two unknown people were later discovered on the property, “both of whom claimed ignorance of the dead animals,” according to Toledo police.

Photos and reports from the scene have been turned over to the Toledo Humane Society for investigation and possible charges, TPD said.

The Lucas County dog ​​catcher, who was called to the scene when officers discovered the dead puppies, took the carcasses and the crate as evidence.
