Warren Foegele’s knee-to-knee fight against Eetu Luostarinen left fans angry

The Edmonton Oilers may have to do without Warren Foegele for some games of the Stanley Cup Final after this bad blow.

On Monday, the Oilers faced the Florida Panthers in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final. Edmonton was looking to even the series before heading back to Canada. The first period was sloppy and uneven, but chaos broke out about halfway through the period after Foegele landed a hard hit on Panthers forward Eetu Luostarinen.

Just as the Panthers had entered Oilers territory, Foegele collided with Luostarinen in the middle of the ice, which immediately caused a scrum. Luostarinen was on the ice for a while, but luckily managed to get free with some help when Foegele landed a clearly dangerous knee-to-knee strike.

Foegele received a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct penalty for the ugly hit, which also earned him an ejection. A well-deserved penalty, but one has to wonder if NHL Player Safety will step in to impose an additional suspension, as knee-on-knee strikes are incredibly dangerous in hockey.

At least the NHL fans are loudly demanding that Foegele be suspended after this terrible blow against Luostarinen.
