Houston man killed in possible road rage shooting

Fredy “Alex” Amaya, 46, was fatally shot along the North Beltway while walking home from work.

HOUSTON — They say parents should never have to bury their children, but Dan Amaya is now helping his mother bury one of her two brothers.

“Not in a million years would I have guessed that, you know,” Amaya said. “I will make arrangements for my younger brother.”

He said he was at work when he received a frantic call from his mother about the sudden death of 46-year-old Fredy “Alex” Amaya.

“It’s like someone took a hammer and hit me right in the heart,” Amaya said.

Alex was found fatally shot in the head in his car last Monday evening around 6:30 p.m. on the North Beltway ramp to I-45.

At this time, there are no suspects or motive, but Houston Police are investigating a possible road rage incident.

“On a busy highway, in broad daylight, there were cars in every lane,” Amaya said. “I mean, how could anyone not see something?”

Alex was killed minutes after leaving his job at a drilling tool company where, like home, Amaya said he was appreciated and respected.

The medical examiner’s office gave him a bag containing Alex’s personal belongings on Sunday. His work ID badge was among the items inside.

“The message I have, and this message is for the person who did it,” Amaya said. “Find it in your heart and do the right thing, surrender.”

Amaya said that he and Alex had visited their father’s grave not too long ago. It’s a storyline that Alex will soon share.

The family has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the funeral and other expenses.
