Parasailing in Sharjah, parachute, six injured, strong wind, heavy rain

Two companies in Sharjah offering parasailing services were closed on Sunday following an incident that left six men injured.

The decision by the Civil Aviation Authority and the Sharjah Economic Development Authority to suspend both companies will remain valid until the investigation is completed, Sharjah News reported on Sunday.

Six Asians were injured when the ropes connecting them to their parachutes broke during heavy rain and strong winds in Khor Fakkan in Sharjah on Saturday.

The men were parasailing off the beach with three parachutes when the ropes broke.

According to the Sharjah News article, both departments stated that the safety of residents is the top priority during such activities and stressed that such activities must be stopped during bad weather.

A video taken by a passing motorist showed two men dangling in the air, struggling in strong winds. Then the rope broke and they were thrown through the air. Another video showed one of the men at the farm with part of his parachute hanging from a date palm tree. Both videos went viral on social media.
