Father raises money for son killed in seven-vehicle crash in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana (KLFY)– Justin Ogbuaku said he was excited to bring his family business, Smacking Sweets and Eats, to the ArtWalk of Lafayette; he said it was a bittersweet moment knowing his son, Jesus Ogbuakuwould be at his side immediately if he were there.

“That was really hard,” said Justin Ogbuaku. “Jesus usually comes at the right time. That’s my son. I always have him. He’s my muscle.”


At the ArtWalk by LafayetteMany local art and food vendors were able to showcase their talent, but Justin Ogbauku says he is participating this year to raise money for a proper burial for his son. His son, Jesus Ogbauku, was tragically killed in a seven-car crash in Lafayette on Friday. Justin Ogbauku said he has received a lot of support from the community since the accident, even from other vendors.

“I got here today to set everything up and vendors actually came up to me and hugged me and that helped,” said Justin Ogbauku. “A friend of my son is here today and it helps that he comes by.”

Justin Ogbauku said his company specializes in making chocolates, which come in over 50 different flavors, as well as food items like cheesesteaks and stuffed potatoes. He said he started this business for his family and will even make some food items in honor of his son.

“I made it a family business and he is lost but not forgotten,” said Justin Ogbauku. “He will still be the symbol of the company. I will make some items in his name.”

Justin Ogbauku said he has experienced many ups and downs in his life, but he will continue to stand strong by his family during this difficult time.

“I’ve been through a lot in my life and they ask me, dad, ‘How can you be so strong?’ And I’m strong for them and that’s what I’m going to continue to do right now.”

The family has a GoFundMe to raise money for his funeral.
