New Hampshire fugitive arrested by police at Plainfield hotel

PLAINFIELD, Connecticut – Plainfield police arrested a New Hampshire man Friday on an outstanding warrant for five counts of possession of child sexual abuse images and five counts of distribution of child sexual abuse images in his home state, according to a Plainfield police news release.

On Friday, the Grafton County Police Department in New Hampshire asked Plainfield police for help in locating fugitive Michael Betz, 50, of Canaan, New Hampshire. According to police, officers conducted a patrol outside a local hotel in Plainfield.

According to the release, officers saw Betz’s vehicle in the hotel parking lot and were informed by staff that he was staying in a hotel room. Police said officers found Betz and took him into custody.

Betz told officers he had a handgun in the hotel room; Plainfield police said they confiscated the weapon.

Betz was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and fugitive from justice, police said. He is being held at the Plainfield Police Department on $500,000 bail. Betz is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at the Danielson Superior Courthouse, GA-11.

It is unclear when he will be returned to New Hampshire to face charges related to child sexual abuse images he allegedly possessed and distributed.
