Weather warning day: Storms expected to bring wind and flooding risk tonight through Sunday morning

BLOG:

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Daytime Weather Warning for this evening as severe storms are expected.

A warm front continues to move through Mid-Missouri today, bringing higher temperatures and humidity, but also rapidly increasing instability as the morning rain dries up and the region gets more sunshine again. Thunderstorms will move in during the evening (5-7 p.m.) and intensify quickly.

Communities along and south of Highway 50 are under a severe risk level 2 out of 5, according to the Storm Prediction Center.

Storms bring the threat of all types of severe weather, but the focus is on the potential for damaging winds, hail, and flooding. The high level of instability will result in high storms with an updraft capable of producing hail and gusty winds downward. Particularly when storms can form into an organized cluster.

In addition, storms will form and bring repeated heavy rains to the same areas, increasing the risk of flooding through Sunday morning.

Make sure you get alerts at night. You should turn on and program your NOAA Weather Radio and make sure you have downloaded the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather App and set up alerts so you can get timely warnings that can wake you up in the event of dangerous weather.
