Fatal house fire in Los Lunas under investigation

One person has died following a house fire on Santistevan Court in Los Lunas, according to Valencia County Fire Chief Matt Propp. Firefighters from multiple agencies helped bring the blaze under control. Responding crews included the Los Lunas Fire Department, Los Lunas Police Department, Valencia County Fire Department and Peralta Fire Department. Fire Chief Propp tells KOAT officials are investigating the scene to determine what may have caused the fire. “This morning we received a call around 8:20 a.m. about a structure fire at a singlewide mobile home. When our officers arrived, they saw the house engulfed in flames,” said Los Lunas Police spokeswoman Nikki Deanda. Deanda told KOAT they did not arrest anyone and did not believe the fire was arson. “The state police will not be taking over. The investigation will still be handled by the city police. As far as it being a criminal investigation. The state police are just coming to help investigate the crime scene in this case,” Deanda said. Officials say emergency vehicles will be in the area for the next few hours and are asking people to avoid the area.
