40-year-old woman dies after accident in Carroll County

Virginia State Police are investigating a car crash that killed a 40-year-old woman in Carroll County Tuesday morning.

According to police, the single-vehicle accident occurred at 7:40 a.m. on Route 97 (Pipers Gap Road) in Carroll County.

We have been advised that a 2010 Hyundai Elantra was traveling west on Route 97 near Crooked Creek Road when the vehicle crossed the center line, left the road and struck a tree.

VSP said the driver of the Elantra, 40-year-old Martha Crocket of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, died at the scene.

According to authorities, the accident is still under investigation.
