Lawyer: Man who sexually abused minors must go to prison for 30 years

MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCBD) – A man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor.

According to Ninth District Attorney Scarlett Wilson, Evan Michael Rosenberg of Berkeley County pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and distribution of obscene material to a minor.

Prosecutor’s officials said Rosenberg repeatedly sexually abused a minor before she reported the abuse to her mother, who immediately cut off contact between the two. He also sent the victim explicit pornography and showed her sexually explicit videos in person.

“Too often we see parents who do not support their children when they have the courage to expose their abusers. Thank God the victim’s mother did the right thing in this case. Without her support the victim would still be in danger and we likely would not have been able to prove this case,” attorney Wilson said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

The ten-year-old victim could have been expected to testify at Rosenberg’s upcoming trial if he had not pleaded guilty.

Judge Deadra L. Jefferson sentenced Rosenberg to 30 years in prison for sexual abuse and 15 years for distribution. Both sentences will be served concurrently.
