Why we suspended the helicopter landing fee – FG

Mr. Odutayo Oluseyi, the Ministry’s Head of Press and Public Relations, disclosed this in a statement released to journalists in Lagos on Friday.

Oluseyi said the collection of the levy had been temporarily suspended to enable the ministry to address the most pressing concerns of industry players.

“We wish to clarify the matter here by stating that the Minister, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), has temporarily suspended the project to further investigate the issues raised by stakeholders.

“Contrary to reports to the contrary, this suspension does not entail the revocation of the concession and mandate of the consultants responsible for collecting the tax.

“Instead, a comprehensive review is currently underway to address the issues and develop a forward-looking approach.

“A specially constituted committee comprising representatives of the ministry, its relevant agencies, Nigeria’s airlines and the international oil companies (IOCs) is working to achieve this objective,” the official said.

According to him, the main objective of the Committee is to develop a workable framework for implementing compliance with landing duty payments, thus ensuring a win-win situation for all parties involved.

“In this way, the industry can move forward in a spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding,” he said.

He said the committee’s recommendations would be crucial to the future collection of helicopter landing fees and ensure a sustainable and thriving aviation industry.

“Accurate reporting is critical to project progress.

“In this way, we can create a more informed and supportive environment for the success of the aviation industry.

“Let us use this opportunity for constructive dialogue and mutual growth. We call on all parties involved to remain calm and show support as we work together towards a solution.

“The aviation industry is an important sector that deserves our collective efforts to ensure its continued growth and success,” Oluseyi said.

The ministry announced the helipad levy in April and gave NAEBI Dynamic Concept Ltd. the sole right to collect the levy.
