Houthi fighters claim they launched an attack on a US aircraft carrier in response to British and American attacks on military bases.

The militants claimed they attacked the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower in the Red Sea after the US attacked targets in Yemen.

The Houthis said they carried out the attack on the giant US ship in response to Thursday’s attacks on Houthis targets in Yemen, as well as in Britain and the United States, in an effort to curb attacks on commercial shipping.

Two locations near Hudaida have been confirmed by intelligence as being involved in the attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, the British Ministry of Defense said.

Buildings in the area have been identified as drone ground control facilities and long-range drone storage facilities. Another facility in Ghulayfiqah, further south on the Yemeni coast, has also been linked to Houthi attacks on vessels in the region.

The Ministry of Defence said American and British fighter jets and US ships had carried out attacks on a wide range of targets in Yemen. Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4 fighter jets had hit buildings at the three sites with Paveway IV guided bombs, the ministry said.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said last night’s attacks were carried out “to further weaken the Houthis’ military capabilities and prevent further attacks on international shipping.”

“The attacks were carried out in self-defense in the face of the ongoing threat from the Houthis,” he added.
