“I relive it every night. It’s in my visions. It’s in my dreams and my waking thoughts,” he said. “The doctor said I even removed my blemish. How do you remove a blemish?”

The actor further expressed his gratitude to the hospital staff who cared for him, as well as to his family, saying “probably a divine intervention too.”

He added: “It took the community of all these people. That’s the power of love. It’s a slow burn. Man, I’m telling you. I can barely speak.”

Renner returned to work in January, a year after the accident, to reprise his role as Mike McLusky in the Paramount+ crime thriller Mayor of Kingstown. Production on the show’s upcoming third season has now wrapped, with the first episodes scheduled to air on June 2.

The actor admitted he had mixed emotions about returning to a fictional world while recovering from his physical injuries.

“I’m trying to create something true and make the audience believe it, while trying to learn to walk again, to put one foot in front of the other and not get up in pain. I’m doing all these things to get my footing on this planet again,” he said.

“The idea of immersing myself in a fictional world – I have to be honest, I really had to think: ‘Is this something I really want to do?'”

Of the challenges he faced on set, Renner added: “They said, ‘And action!’ And I (slept). We realized they were pushing me too hard, too many hours, too many days in a row.”

“I am willing to do anything, but I can do something else.”
