2 people arrested after nighttime chase in Franklin County, Kansas, 3 minors found

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) — A late-night chase in Franklin County ended before three juveniles were found in the suspect’s vehicle and two adults were arrested.

The Osage County, Kansas Sheriff’s Office said officers attempted to stop a vehicle near mile marker 165 on I-35 for a traffic violation just after 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29. However, the driver refused to stop and instead attempted to drive away at a high rate of speed.

Police officials said a chase was initiated before the driver, later identified as Carlos M. Gonzalez, 42, of Wichita, left the highway and headed through Williamsburg into rural Franklin County.

The sheriff’s office said a tire deflation device was used, causing the vehicle to stop near Rock Creek and Delaware Road, southwest of Ottawa. Three juveniles were found inside the vehicle.

Gonzalez and his passenger, Mary I. Walker, 43, of Wichita, were arrested and booked into the Osage County Jail on:

  • Gonzalez:
    • Fleeing or attempting to evade police by driving recklessly
    • 3 cases of serious endangerment of a child
    • Driving despite a driving ban
    • arrest warrant
  • Walking aid:
    • Obstruction of law enforcement
    • arrest warrant
