Hartford Police Investigate Burglary at Angel of Edgewood Nonprofit – NBC Connecticut

On Wednesday morning, Jen Scott-Miller, founder of Angel of Edgewood, inspected the damage to her warehouse after she said the building was robbed sometime during the night.

“It’s frustrating because we’re trying to do good and we do a lot of good, but people don’t understand that I do a lot of it behind the scenes on my own and that I sacrifice things, time and family. A lot of resources that could be put to good use,” Scott-Miller said.

Hartford police are still investigating the incident and are also looking into how the building was entered. Scott-Miller says numerous items were stolen, including televisions and air conditioners.

“It gets so frustrating that you just want to give up, but like I said, my wife has the strength to keep going. Jen is handling it really well. I know it hurts her to see this, but she’s going to get back on her feet and keep going,” Vince Miller said.

Scott-Miller said Angel of Edgewood has struggled with numerous safety issues since moving into the Franklin Avenue building two years ago.

“We don’t have the money to buy back the things that were taken from us,” she said.

They are now hoping for additional state or federal funding to improve security.

“We really need our funds to secure the building. It was a blessing for us to get the grant, but taxpayers are paying for it and no one wants to pay for the same damage over and over again,” Scott-Miller said.
