Man from Bismarck dies after head-on collision with dirt bike

BISMARCK, ND (KFYR) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol said one person died in a head-on collision involving a dirt bike Monday afternoon.

According to the NDHP, shortly after 5:30 p.m., a 24-year-old Bismarck man was traveling west on a dirt road in the Kimball Bottoms OHV Area, commonly known as the “desert” south of Bismarck.

A 25-year-old man from Bismarck was traveling east on the same path on a second dirt bike.

Officers reported that the two dirt bikes collided head-on and both riders were thrown from their bikes.

The Metro Area Ambulance took the 24-year-old to CHI St. Alexius Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The 25-year-old was taken to Sanford Hospital with serious injuries.

According to NDHP, both men were wearing helmets.

The Burleigh County District Attorney and the Bismarck Fire Department were also on scene.

The NDHP is still investigating the crash and plans to release names at a later date.
