Man dead after car crash in Franklin County

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Virginia. – Virginia State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that left one man dead.

The crash occurred at 5:50 p.m. Friday on Route 220 near Burgess Road in Franklin County. Investigators say a 2018 Ford F-150 was traveling north on Route 220 when the vehicle crossed the median and collided head-on with a 2003 Freightliner semi-trailer that was also traveling southbound. It then collided with a 2023 Nissan Altima that was also traveling southbound.

The driver of the Ford was identified as Christopher Jeffrey Perry, 48, of Apex, North Carolina. Police say Perry was wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

According to investigators, the driver of the semi-trailer was wearing a seatbelt and was also injured. He was taken to a hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the Nissan was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
