1 dead, 2 seriously injured in accident on I-65 in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Indiana – One person was killed and two others injured in a crash Friday in Jackson County.

According to a news release, Jose Uribe, 53, of Winder, Georgia, was driving a 2008 Nissan pickup truck north on Interstate 65 in Jackson County before the crash. For an unknown reason, Uribe’s vehicle left the east side of the roadway near mile marker 43 between Seymour and Crothersville at around 10:25 a.m.


Indiana State Police reported that Uribe steered the truck back onto the roadway before it eventually rolled over and came to rest in the northbound lanes. The Jackson County Coroner’s Office pronounced Uribe dead at the scene.

One of Uribe’s passengers was flown from the scene to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment, according to ISP. A second passenger, who is 17, was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour and later flown to an Indianapolis hospital for further treatment.

The police are still investigating the accident. The results of the toxicology tests are still pending.

The northbound lanes of I-65 were closed for two hours during the accident investigation and cleanup.
